Concerning Strange Devices from the Distant West – Conceptual Scenic Design
For this interpretation of Concerning Strange Devices from the Distant West, we developed a scenic design that blurred the lines between past and present, illusion and reality. Created as part of an advanced scenic design project at NYU Tisch, the concept played with shifting perspectives and fragmented imagery, reflecting the play’s themes of voyeurism and the ephemeral nature of memory. Through layered textures, evocative lighting, and an interplay of Eastern and Western visual influences, the set became an immersive, almost cinematic space—one that transformed alongside the story’s evolving narratives. This project highlights our ability to create dynamic environments that transport audiences into the psychological and historical depths of a piece.
